Commercial litigator, securities arbitration counsel
Michael Kalmus is of counsel to Levy & Schneps. He became affiliated with the firm after 30 years in practice. Mr. Kalmus had a distinguished career in public service as the Deputy Chief of the Rackets Bureau in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office. During his tenure, he was appointed Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. As a private practitioner for the past 24 years, specializing in commercial litigation and securities arbitration cases representing public customers, brokerage firms and stock brokers, Mr. Kalmus has traveled throughout the country resolving more than 300 securities controversies by settlement, mediation or arbitration including foreign customer claims and numerous multi-million dollar disputes. His cases have been reported in the media, including the Securities Arbitration Commentator.
Mr. Kalmus is well versed in all aspects of securities arbitration disputes and has tried many cases, both as claimants’ counsel and respondents’ counsel, before the New York Stock Exchange and the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD), now known as the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), a regulatory body created after the merger of the NASD and the New York Stock Exchange’s regulation committee.
In his association with Levy & Schneps, Mr. Kalmus focuses almost exclusively on securities arbitration cases.
